These are people standing in front of the plant, dated and located to the metre — the densest Hawaiian evidence available. What they cannot tell you is whether the fruit was ripe.

Wind-carried. Distance depends on the day rather than on an animal, and a plant left standing through its fruiting window seeds the neighbourhood.

Travels on boots, tyres, stock and gear. Cleaning protocols timed to the fruiting window are worth more than the same protocols applied year-round.
